The 5 I´s stand for the strategic areas Intuitive Usability, Integrative Service Components, Intelligent Access, Infrastructure Development, and Inherent Security. Individual projects in the research areas have a short time-to-market maturity of three to five years. As a result, the Innovation Development Laboratory’s project portfolio is especially subject to the dynamics of change in today’s markets and technologies and is constantly updated to reflect latest developments.
Focus on Customers
Development work greatly benefits from the involvement of future customers, even in the early stages of innovation, when strategy and technology can still be shaped in many areas. Telekom Laboratories relies on user tests of various kinds, from very small focus groups to large-scale field trials.
Colloboration and Partnerships
The Innovation Development Laboratory initiates and manages collaborations with other R&D facilities as well as participating in external R&D programs. It is in charge of all contact and partner management and actively represents Deutsche Telekom in national and international R&D consortiums and bodies.
Central Interface
The experts at the Innovation Development Laboratory thereby form a central interface between the various external partners and the in-house developers and marketing staff. The program and project managers act as a team to combine competencies in technology, customer expertise and market know-how.
