Deutsche Telekom, Europe’s leading telecommunications company, is expanding its corporate research and development centre - Deutsche Telekom Laboratories - in Germany’s vibrant capital Berlin in collaboration with the Technische Universität Berlin.

Deutsche Telekom Laboratories’ mission is to explore and develop new information and communication technologies that lay the foundations for Deutsche Telekom’s future products and services. Telekom Laboratories comprises a technology-oriented Strategic Research Laboratory and an application-oriented Innovation Development Laboratory.

As a joint venture between a company at the cutting edge of information technology and a leading German research university, Deutsche Telekom Laboratories offers an unprecedented combination of academic freedom, practical focus, and the resources of a major corporation. Deutsche Telekom Laboratories are housed on the main campus of the Technische Universität Berlin with about 30,000 students and several research institutes working in various areas of information and communication technology.

The newly formed Research Group Security in Telecommunications, headed by Prof. Dr. Jean-Pierre Seifert, is looking for PhD applicants with an outstanding Mathematics/Computer Science/Engineering degree. The successful candidates will have a strong and proven background and as well a self-motivated research interest in at least one of the following research fields:

  • System Security (Access control, SELinux, Virtualization, Micro-kernels, etc.)
  • Hardware Security (Tamper resistance, Side Channel/Micro architectural attacks, Fault attacks, etc.)
  • Computer architectural security enhancements (LT, VT, iAMT, TrustZone, Pacifica, etc.)
  • Secure embedded systems
  • Formal Verification for computer security
  • Applied Cryptography
  • Vulnerability Analysis
  • Secure WS and SOA architectures

While practically oriented candidates are preferred, outstanding theorists are also considered. Strong candidates are encouraged to send their qualifying applications in electronic form directly to jean-pierre.seifert@telekom.de
