Deutsche Telekom, Siemens and Daimler-Chrysler as well as the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e.V. (The Fraunhofer institute for the promotion of applied research) and the Technische Universität Berlin have founded the “European Center for Information and Communication Technologies” (EICT) as a public-private partnership. In the EICT, research and development activities of the five founding partners will be consolidated into cooperation fields within the area of information/communication technology and implemented by means of projects.

By founding the EICT, the partners aim to strengthen their competitiveness in the area of information and communication technology in the long term. Based on close cooperation of the parties involved from the areas of industry, research and science, the EICT is meant to improve innovation transfer and speed up implementation of innovations into marketable products. In addition, the science partners are extending their research competence and can offer practice-oriented positions to young scientists – in a dynamic sector that is the growth motor for the European economy and also plays a decisive role for economic growth worldwide.

The EICT is based in the Telefunken high-rise on the campus of the TU Berlin, the registered office of Telekom Laboratories. In the future, Deutsche Telekom’s research and development center will be the Group’s interface to the EICT. In the medium term, further partners from the areas of business and science are meant to join the five founding partners in the innovation center or collaborate with the EICT on a project-by-project basis.
