DALI is the “Digital Addressable Light Interface” with which all lighting is controlled in the Telekom Laboratories. The DALI controller being driven by an IP-based building automation system was decisive for the jurors. The ability to easily address every light from a laptop browser means that the brightness of the lighting in the vicinity can easily be changed, or switched on and off. Personal preferences such as “always 30% less light than the normal automatic level”can be stored and called up at any time. The individual lighting preferences can be activated as soon as the user logs on to a workplace. Lamp failures are detected by DALI and then reported to the system manager by email or SMS.
Outside of office hours things get colourful. Scenarios controlled by DALI light up the Telefunken Tower, using strong colours. In its prominent position on the campus of Berlin’s Technical University, at night, the Deutsch Telekom Laboratories can then be seen for miles.
