Broadband Access Evolution

Broadband Access Evolution

In this area, T-Labs R&I concentrates on enabling competitive and cost-efficient broadband fixed, wireless and mobile Internet access for the Gigabit society with superior user experience. This also includes enhanced solutions for seamless service support and fixed-/mobile converged infrastructures, comprising optimized connectivity of cars, trains and airplanes.

The overarching goal is to generate “Always best connected” services for Telekom customers with competitive access solutions with superior user experience. New access technologies have also to be cost-optimized, converged and assure a sustainable access network evolution. Next Generation Mobile Networks (NGMN), Next Generation Optical Access (NGOA) and Seamless, QoS-enabled access control are the major fields of work to achieve these goals.

To get there, concepts, business models and business cases and specifications, incl. standardization, are being created by the experts and researchers. Feasibility studies and Proof of Concepts by simulations, lab and field tests and prototypes are additional activities.

Projects in the supporter area include Broadband access – FTTX, LTE (Advanced) and Next Generation WiFi. In the challenger area … Heterogeneous wireless access (multi-layer/-technology/-frequency), Next generation self optimizing networks.
